I have enjoyed traditional quilting for many, many years and continue to push the boundaries of my work. More recently, I have been exploring art quilting techniques, using my own hand-dyed fabrics and original designs. Additional touches like thread painting enhance my work and develop the colours of my hand-painted backgrounds. Many of my inspirations are found in my hometown of Georgina, with its beautiful sunsets and abundant nature.
As in nature, I like to compare my art journey to the transition of life. At first we are a little apprehensive, eager to learn and to take those first steps. Once we establish our confidence, we realize there are no boundaries of our imagination, and advance in leaps and bounds, always taking in more knowledge and sharing our results. Colour plays a strong role in my life as an artist, encouraging me to explore the meaning of “what if”. Quilting and using textiles to produce functional items gives me a purpose for which I feel a need to achieve. How I achieve these needs gives me internal peace and tranquility. Sharing my abilities and knowledge gives me the greatest gift of all.
