Tom Zsolt - Location 5 Canadian photographer, Tom Tom Zsolt - Location 5 Canadian photographer, Tom Zsolt has been documenting landscapes, towns, and life across North America for 50 years. His exhibition, Ontario Gothic, during Contact ’98 in Toronto, caught the imagination of publisher Kearns, Vander Meersch & Boulton, who in 1999 published County Matters, Zsolt’s first book. Showing the land, villages and people of rural Ontario, Country Matters was short listed for the Roloff Beny Award for the best book of photography by a Canadian published that year. In 2009, Zsolt’s work was selected for an exhibition in Beijing, followed by a 10-city tour in China, titled Canadian Cameras at Work. Zsolt’s photograph Niagara Falls, depicting Asian tourists being photographed before Niagara Falls in winter, was selected as the poster image for the exhibition. In 2015, the Georgina Centre for Arts & Culture, and Contact 2015, hosted Reluctant Subject, Portraits by Tom Zsolt exhibiting 40 years of his portraits, which was followed by the release of the book. Tom Zsolt lectures on photography, his work has appeared on the cover of novels and in magazines. Zsolt’s photography is collected by private individuals, corporations and institutions including The Image Centre at TMU (formerly Ryerson University), OMERS, Royal LePage and Borealis Capital. The largest collection of his photography is housed in the permanent collection of the Georgina Centre for Arts and Culture in Sutton, Ontario. Tim Tindale - Location 45 Tim Tindale is a husban Tim Tindale - Location 45 Tim Tindale is a husband, father and grandfather. He has had a love for art all of is life but in the last 3 years since being retired has focused more on his painting. He was born and raised in Toronto and spent many years living in Richmond Hill with his wife and family. In 2016 he moved to Keswick and is part of the Georgina community. He loves to paint landscapes and still life. Many of his paintings reflect the community of Lake Simcoe as well as his many travels in Canada and abroad. He has a real love for the east coast and has done many paintings capturing the flavor of the Maritimes and Newfoundland. He loves using the acrylic medium for his paintings. TERESA DUNLOP - Location 35 Teresa Dunlop is a Ne TERESA DUNLOP - Location 35 Teresa Dunlop is a Newmarket, Ontario based ceramic artist. For thirty-two years, Teresa was an elementary school teacher. Watching her students’ creative exploration of material made Teresa want to be a maker as well as a facilitator. Seizing this dream, Teresa went back to school and completed the Craft and Design Ceramics program at Sheridan College. With this new diploma, she began a second career as a potter/ceramic artist!! For three years Teresa was an artist in residence in the Ceramic Studio at Harbourfront Centre in Toronto. Unique glass pieces with a difference that include cut and polished stones, fused glass, wood, and other elements from nature. The added natural, organic & reclaimed objects, glass, driftwood from Lake Simcoe, Black Walnuts, feathers, beads, to create earthy jewellery and wall pendants. The stone cutting and polishing done by Bill are used by Suzanne in her pieces. Brett studied at Sheridan College. His different glass art pieces are in stained, fused glass and flame working. Susan Sutherland - Location 23 Susan Sutherland i Susan Sutherland - Location 23 Susan Sutherland is a textile artist living in the village of Jackson’s Point. Susan started knitting clothes for her dolls in childhood and now works beautiful patterns in silk, linen, wool and cotton. Each of Susan’s pieces is exquisitely crafted. She combines colours and fibres to produce something beautiful, row by row. Some pieces, such as thrummed mittens, handwarmers and socks are practical and hardwearing. Her wraps and shawls range from gossamer light to wraparound warm. Hats, neck warmers and half mittens are made from a variety of premium fibres in delicious colours. Some of Susan’s work is just for fun; miniature mice, whimsical window cats and divinely soft bunnies and kittens. Susan also creates gorgeous cabled silk and linen knits in swirling patterns and lovely colours. Susan Eaton I am a visual artist that works with Susan Eaton I am a visual artist that works with egg tempera or acrylic. I fell in love with egg at a Waldorf inspired art course. Having no previous art training, I never saw the world around me the same, some 15 years ago. For me painting is a celebration of colour and when we meet on the canvas, it’s a wonderful dance of inspiration and creativity. Susan Day - Location 12 Susan has been quilting f Susan Day - Location 12 Susan has been quilting for 20 years, taking her craft from traditional forms to a fresh, modern approach. Never one to “follow the rules”, she has always injected her own ideas into her creations. Dipping into colourful, quality fabric collected over the years, she creates quilts and wall hangings, plus useful tote bags and decorative cushions. Susan attended the Ontario College of Art in the early 70s. There she studied drawing, textile design, colour theory and photography. After a career in Marketing, and yearning for a creative outlet, quilting was discovered. The endless design possibilities of using traditional piecing techniques and colour combinations fascinated her. She sews traditional patterns, somewhat altered to suit herself, plus colourful abstract designs. A move to Georgina 20 years ago, after living in the big city, has led to a peaceful life in a beautiful landscape, with Lake Simcoe nearby. Sheila Dobson - Location 23 Sheila Dobson is an a Sheila Dobson - Location 23 Sheila Dobson is an artist in Acrylic and textiles. Living on the Black River in an historic house in Old Sutton provides endless inspiration for artistic exploration. She is particularly interested in colour and the creation of light and shadow within colour. Her work is an exploration of the joy and learning of the every day. Sheila’s work has been commissioned by a major corporation to commemorate a product development anniversary, shown at the Georgina Art Gallery, and won first in class at the Sutton Agricultural Fair. New to the tour! Sarah Porter is a York Region a New to the tour! Sarah Porter is a York Region artist who has been working infused glass since 2010. Her artist education has been both formal and experiential: she has had the good fortune to learn from glass Masters from around the world, as well as taken time for much personal trial and error. She loves learning new techniques in glass manipulation. Her portfolio includes a wide selection of works including the wearable, the functional and the sculptural. Sarah presents her work at studio tours throughout the year, as well as in select galleries in Southern Ontario. “The scope of glass as a medium captivates me and has taken hold: colour, depth, light and shadow…. It’s irresistible! The transformational possibilities with kiln-forming are endless. And it’s as much a journey of self-exploration as it is an exploration of the materials. I find such joy in finding new ways to use heat and gravity to transform glass material in the kiln. The last few years have allowed me to revisit, combine and refine my skills. I appreciate being able to bring beauty into the world with each new creation.
